Summary
Jetro
CockpIT™ is the ideal management layer
for Windows® Terminal Services. CockpIT™
delivers a comprehensive suite of tools
that enable the system administrator
to deploy and manage remote applications
to any device that can run a standard
RDP® client and to any location. CockpIT™
enables users to run their applications
and print their documents seamlessly
and efficiently, as if they were working
locally.
Jetro
CockpIT™ is a comprehensive, yet simple
solution that delivers server-based
computing (SBC) applications from either
Windows® Terminal Services or Citrix
servers. This combination makes CockpIT™
uniquely positioned to offer an SBC
solution that effectively solves major
IT issues for the modern enterprise.
Because the offering is comprehensive,
IT companies are not required to purchase
3rd-party add-ons from outside vendors.
At
the same time, all features are managed
together synergistically from one intuitive
administration site. In particular,
Jetro CockpIT™ uniquely solves the key
issues faced by server-based computing
solutions such as printing, thin client
management, multimedia (enabled content
redirection), dual system management
and much more.

System Architecture
A server farm administrated
by a CockpIT™ Server contains at least
one CockpIT™ Server, any number of terminal
servers, client workstations, directory
services, and back office servers. The
server farm may also include a firewall
and remote users. Every client workstation
uses a copy of Jetro Client and every
terminal server is installed with a
CockpIT™ Agent. The following is an explanation
of all of the components of this server
farm.
CockpIT™
Server
This
server can be a BoostIT Server and/or
a CockpIT™ Server. A BoostIT Server delivers
applications and content using the ICA®
transfer protocol as well as the RDP®
protocol. CockpIT™ only delivers applications
using the RDP® transfer protocol. BoostIT
can only be sold to enterprises with
active Citrix licenses. BoostIT and
CockpIT™ both deliver seamless RDP® sessions.
The CockpIT™/BoostIT
Server is installed on a Windows 2003 server
running Internet Information
Server (IIS). For CockpIT version 3.0, the operating system can be Windows 2000 as well.
CockpIT can also be installed on top of a Terminal Server, and multiple CockpIT servers
can be clustered together to enhance redundancy and scalability.

Terminal
Server Farm
In
a CockpIT™ environment, these are Microsoft
Terminal Servers. In a BoostIT environment,
these are Microsoft Terminal Servers
and Citrix Servers. The following are
examples of applications that might
be installed on these servers: Microsoft
Office, mail clients, the client side
of an ERP or CRM applications. These
servers should be configured to authenticate
users against the selected directory
service. A Jetro TS Agent is installed
in each of these servers but not on
the directory service.

Client
Workstations
Client
workstations are the end-user's interface
with the server farm. Workstations can
be thin clients or conventional (fat)
PCs. Two options are available for client
functionality. The Universal Client
with Dashboard is available to thin
clients that cannot install the full
client. For conventional workstations,
the Jetro full client installation provides
additional functionality such as client
print compression, single session logon,
and seamless windows.
CockpIT™
delivers a customized user desktop to
every user. Every user's desktop is
based on the policy database defined
by the administrator in the CockpIT™
Administrator Site. Once a user logs
onto CockpIT™ for the first time, the
user accesses applications via icons
in the CockpIT™ folder in the Start menu
or through a CockpIT™ Virtual Desktop.
Users access their virtual desktops
through a link in the Windows System
Tray. All of the user's links are synchronized
with the administrator-defined rights
that are recorded in the directory service
and in CockpIT™ scheduling and security
policies.

Print
Terminals
Print
Terminals provide full printing functionality
to thin clients. The print terminal
is a standard PC installed with the
full client. The print terminal provides
full print functionality, including
print job compression and the universal
driver to thin clients and other devices
that lack the full Jetro client installation.
The print terminal can also be to service
a group of PC workstations to optimize
system performance.

Directory
Services
This
server stores the user list database.
The directory service can be either
Active Directory or NT4 Domain. There
is no CockpIT™ component installed on
this server.

Back
Office Servers
These
servers house the server side applications
from the CockpIT™ administrated farm.
There are no CockpIT™ components installed
on these servers. Email applications
such as Exchange and database management
systems are examples of programs that
reside on these servers.
