Slash Total Cost of Ownership
The expense associated with owning and operating a PC
workstation begins with the purchase price of the PC
and peripherals, but it doesn’t end there. In
fact, the Florida-based Tolly Group, that specializes
in IT certification, research and testing, reports that
companies generally spend over $12,000 per year
per workstation.
Support and Administration
Over 75% of workstation expenses are recurring costs.
This includes technical support, software upgrades,
application maintenance, backup and recovery, and productivity
related costs.
In a client-based network, straightforward software
upgrades are tedious and expensive, while enterprise
application deployments are major projects in terms
of hours required. Technicians must physically distribute
applications to each user device at their location,
as well as deal with version control, data replication,
and multiple system configurations.
With the Jetro CockpIT™ architecture, technicians
need only update a centrally located server farm. The
investment in technical maintenance on each server is
then leveraged across 40 or more users. User devices
are installed with a simple and uniform configuration
at a central location, then shipped and plugged into
the workers’ locations. End users automatically
benefit from hardware and software upgrades on the servers,
without making any change to their personal device.
Client Hardware
With the Jetro CockpIT™ architecture business
applications run on the server rather than the client.
This allows users to run the latest software with low-end
workstations and operating systems, which in turn eliminates
the need for upgrades. When workstations stop working
they are not repaired. They are replaced. This allows
employees to get back to work immediately. In addition,
new workstations can be implemented with inexpensive
Windows-based terminals. Because they rarely break or
require upgrades, the terminals’ usable lifespan
is three to four times longer than a PC.
Client Software
Likewise, the need to update operating systems is eliminated.
Any version of Windows, from Windows 95 onwards, will
allow the end user to run the latest applications, regardless
of which operating system they use or how much computing
power they require.
Networking Infrastructure
Because only key entries, mouse clicks, and screen paints
travel across the network, networking bandwidth requirements
are greatly reduced. This reduces or eliminates the
need for costly networking upgrades.
